Local Governments Turn to Tyler Technologies’ Priority Based Budgeting to Strengthen Fiscal Sustainability
Five governments select AI-powered solution to optimize resources amid growing fiscal pressures
PLANO, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that five cities and counties across the country have recently selected Tyler’s AI-powered Priority Based Budgeting (PBB) solution. As governments navigate increasingly complex fiscal pressures, PBB helps leaders evaluate how resources align with programs, services, and community priorities.
Priority Based Budgeting transforms static traditional line-item budgeting by helping government leaders understand the cost and value of programs and evaluate resource allocation through the lens of community priorities and outcomes. This added visibility can help leaders identify alternatives and make more informed, sustainable budget decisions.
“Governments across America are navigating tighter fiscal conditions, evolving Federal funding levels, and growing pressure to demonstrate the impact of every dollar,” said Chris Fabian, senior director of budgeting strategy at Tyler. “Tyler’s Priority Based Budgeting solution gives leaders greater insight into their programs and services so they can evaluate alternatives and better align resources with their communities’ highest-priority outcomes.”
Although each jurisdiction faces a different fiscal environment, these five organizations are seeking greater visibility into program costs and priorities:
- National City, California. The city council unanimously approved Tyler’s Priority Based Budgeting agreement alongside a five-year fiscal sustainability plan intended to eliminate its structural deficit within three years. National City Manager Doug Schulze has previously helped implement PBB in two other communities, eliminating budget shortfalls and improving credit and bond ratings.
- Harris County, Texas. The third-largest county in the U.S. and most populous county in Texas selected Priority Based Budgeting for its Office of Management and Budget. The solution will help leaders evaluate program costs and resource alternatives as the county addresses fiscal challenges and works to strengthen future resource decisions.
- Corpus Christi, Texas. The city will adoptPriority Based Budgeting to identify sustainable options for delivering priority services while balancing public safety, street maintenance, and other community needs.
- Polk County, Iowa. The county will implement Priority Based Budgeting toprepare for Iowa’s new limits on property-tax revenue growth. Program-level analysis will help leaders evaluate resource decisions and sustain priority services within a more constrained funding environment.
- St. Louis County, Missouri. Tyler’s Priority Based Budgeting will assist the County Council with a more structured view of priorities and alternatives as it weighs services, recurring costs, and finite resources.
Priority Based Budgeting uses AI to help government leaders analyze financial information at the program level, evaluate resource alternatives, and better align resources with community priorities and outcomes. PBB demonstrates Tyler’s approach to applying AI within purpose-built public sector solutions.
