EnerSys Receives 5.0 Diamond Rating for Alpha® XM Edge Power System in 2026 Diamond Technology Reviews
READING, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–EnerSys(NYSE: ENS), a global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial, infrastructure, and defense applications, today announced that its Alpha® XM Edge power system received an Honoree Score of 5.0 Diamonds, the highest rating available, in the Active Network Hardware category in Lightwave’s 2026 Diamond Technology Reviews.
“On behalf of Lightwave’s 2026 Diamond Technology Reviews, I would like to congratulate EnerSys on their 5.0 Diamonds honoree status,” said Lightwave’s Editor in Chief, Sean Buckley. “This program recognizes and rewards the top products and solutions available to the broadband cable industry. We appreciate all entries we receive, although not all were honored with 3.5 Diamonds or above.”
Entries in the Diamond Technology Reviews are assessed by a panel of cable telecommunications engineering experts against criteria including originality, innovation, positive customer impact, how well the product addresses a new or existing requirement, novelty of approach and cost-effectiveness.
The award comes as broadband operators are being asked to increase network capacity while controlling energy use and operating cost. At the network edge, even small conversion losses can create a recurring cost when repeated across powered sites. Systems designed for earlier network requirements may add to the operational burden through limited visibility, reactive maintenance and constraints on node placement.
Efficiency at the Network Edge
The Alpha® XM Edge power system is being developed with power-conversion efficiency as its primary design objective. The system is also being designed to reduce time spent servicing each site and give operators better remote visibility. Reliability remains a core requirement as the platform adapts to changing network needs.
- Power-conversion efficiency: The system has a design target of up to 96% peak efficiency, subject to final validation. Depending on load profile and site conditions, the higher conversion efficiency is intended to reduce the energy consumed by the power system and the associated utility cost.
- Field service: Planned hot-swappable power, standby, intelligence and control modules are intended to simplify component replacement, allowing technicians to service individual functions without replacing the complete power unit.
- Operational visibility: Integrated DOCSIS® 3.1 communications, real-time diagnostics and analytics are designed to provide remote visibility into system health, battery condition and utility events, helping technicians identify faults and determine whether an on-site service visit is required.
- Network adaptability: The system is designed to support standard 60/90 VAC distribution and up to 125V synchronous switched DC, with the potential to reduce line losses and extend powering reach in suitable network configurations. This architecture can provide greater flexibility in network design and node placement, depending on the configuration.
“We value this 5.0-Diamond rating because it comes from broadband engineering experts,” said John Hewitt, Vice President, Communications, Americas, EnerSys. “Operators have been clear that efficiency is now a much higher priority. We are designing the Alpha® XM Edge power system to reduce conversion losses without compromising reliability, while also making the system easier to monitor and service.”
The Alpha® XM Edge power system is in active development and is progressing through validation toward phased commercial availability in 2027, subject to successful completion of development, validation, qualification and production-readiness activities.
EnerSys to Preview Alpha® XM Edge Power System at SCTE TechExpo26
EnerSys plans to preview the Alpha® XM Edge power system at SCTE TechExpo26, September 29 through October 1, 2026, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
At booth I1611, visitors will be able to see the system in development and discuss what their network is asking power to do now. At the network edge, that discussion will focus on efficiency, supported by better operational visibility, easier field service and extended powering reach.
The wider EnerSys exhibit will connect requirements at the network edge with those of critical infrastructure, where operators need more power and greater density with less energy waste.
