Capella University Announces Appointment of Oncology Leader Dr. Saro Sarkisian to Board of Trustees

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–
Capella University is pleased to announce the appointment of Saro Sarkisian, MD, MHA, to its Board of Trustees. A board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Sarkisian brings deep expertise he developed through his years treating patients, leading care teams and advising on new oncology therapies.

Dr. Sarkisian currently serves as Clinical Director of Cellular Therapeutics at Frederick Health and also practices at the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland, where he has served as a lead oncologist in high-volume clinical settings and as local principal investigator on numerous national and international clinical trials. As a dynamic physician and key opinion leader, he has advised on the development of immuno-oncology therapeutics, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), overseen the design and implementation of new infusion centers, and contributed to the expansion of oncology access in underserved regions. He has participated in national conferences, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and is an advocate for the career development of physicians and healthcare team members.

Dr. Sarkisian was the first physician in the United States certified to practice tumor treating fields (TTF) therapy for patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer, and he was named a Physician of the Year by the Daily Record’s Health Care Heroes in 2026. He holds an MD from the University of Aleppo in Syria, completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and completed his hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He earned his Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Capella University and completed additional training in the application of AI in healthcare at Harvard Medical School.
