HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) today announced the publication of its 10th annual Living Progress Report for fiscal year 2024, providing a comprehensive view into the company’s progress in building a more sustainable IT ecosystem, driving decarbonization efforts, investing in talent, and developing responsible and ethical technology. Living Progress is HPE’s business strategy for creating sustainable and responsible technology solutions.

The report highlights the progress HPE has made in leveraging its portfolio of IT sustainability solutions and expertise to help customers improve the sustainability of their IT estates. It outlines the company’s approach to ensuring responsible and ethical use of technology within its organization and for its customers and showcases the positive results of the investments it has made into the well-being and long-term development of its people.

“Organizations are increasingly prioritizing the efficiency of their IT as a key metric of business value,” said Antonio Neri, President and CEO of HPE. “At HPE, we adopt a holistic, lifecycle approach to driving IT sustainability, integrating our Living Progress strategy into our core business practices. This approach underscores the deep interconnection between innovation, efficiency, and IT sustainability.”

Empowering Customers with HPE’s Portfolio of IT Sustainability Solutions

HPE helps mitigate the environmental impacts of our customers’ growing IT needs across the entire IT lifecycle through HPE’s portfolio of IT sustainability solutions designed to support customers across three critical areas: expertise and advisory services, actionable data and visibility of IT estates, and solutions that optimize energy consumption while promoting clean energy use.

In FY24, the HPE Sustainability Insights Center, accessible via a unified console in the HPE GreenLake cloud, was among several tools that HPE introduced and refined to allow customers to make more informed decisions on their IT estates’ environmental impacts across IT planning, procurement and operations.

In addition, 118 of HPE’s systems made the November Green500 list of the world’s most energy-efficient supercomputers, with eight making the top fifteen. Significantly, HPE’s 100% fanless direct liquid cooling systems architecture reduces the cooling power per server blade by 37% while halving the required data center floor space. Among mainstream servers, the latest generation of HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 Servers helps customers to lower the cost of power and floor space – demonstrating up to 87% annual power savings compared to previous generations of servers.

Driving Toward Net-Zero Transformation

Despite a trend of rising energy use across the tech sector, linked to compute intensive technologies like AI, in FY24, HPE reduced its overall carbon footprint by 13% year-over-year – reflecting shifts in the product mix sold.

HPE decreased its operational emissions by 34% compared to its 2020 baseline, largely the result of HPE’s efforts to increase renewable electricity procurement and lower electricity consumption in its operations. HPE also surpassed its 2025 target to source 50% renewable electricity for its operations, exceeding its renewable energy target for the third year in a row. In 2024, HPE decreased YoY its overall carbon intensity by 15% and kept the total company emissions increase to just 2% above 2020 baseline, in spite of achieving 12% net revenue growth during the same period.

Investing in People’s Well-being and Long-term Development

In 2024, HPE continued to invest in its people and focus on fostering a high-performance culture to create a superior team member experience and a highly engaged workforce. By supporting long-term development, an inclusive and non-discriminatory culture, and the well-being of its team members, HPE achieved an 82% employee engagement score, as well as a 10 percentage point increase in internal hiring rates year-on-year – demonstrating team members’ appreciation of HPE’s career value proposition.

Commitment to Responsible Technology Solutions

HPE maintained its decades-long commitment to advancing responsible technology solutions across its operations, supply chain, and customer offerings throughout the year. In 2024, HPE launched several initiatives to strengthen governance and risk management around AI. The company introduced an internal AI Governance and Enablement Hub to centralize AI policies, tools, and training. HPE’s AI projects now undergo rigorous risk assessments based on HPE’s AI Ethics Principles, ensuring secure and responsible use across the enterprise.

HPE also developed a platform to streamline AI ethics assessments, automate mitigation recommendations, and monitor trends in AI adoption, allowing the company to focus on high-risk areas and enhance oversight. To support customers, HPE established the HPE Digital Trust Center, providing tools to navigate cybersecurity risks and responsibly manage data. Enhancements in HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management and the reinforcement of the Security Shared Responsibility Model further protect hybrid cloud environments.

By equipping developers with tools for secure AI development, training employees on ethical AI practices, and embedding responsible governance into its operations, HPE is leading the way in building trust and accountability in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
