Telstra Launches the Telstra Octagon Platform to Speed up Trading Across Eight Global Exchanges

Telstra Octagon leverages the company’s low latency subsea network, direct exchange connections to support hyper-competitive global asset, currency, commodities and futures trading activities.

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Telstra, a leading global telecommunications and technology company, has announced the launch of the Telstra Octagon, a global financial trading solution that provides organizations with low latency connectivity directly into eight of the world’s most valuable futures and commodities marketplaces.

Designed for multi assets, equities, fixed income, commodities, money markets, forex, futures, and derivatives trading, the Telstra Octagon platform gives organizations the ability to trade faster across key exchanges. Using the Telstra Octagon, organizations can leverage direct connections to access trading floors in the U.S. and Asia-Pacific region, including the CME and ICE exchanges in the U.S. as well Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. The state-of-the-art connectivity can help companies speed price discovery, risk analysis, smart order routing, flow and matching, trade execution and settlement.

“The Telstra Octagon was designed to enable global financial trading firms to thrive in the hyper-competitive trading world of today where the difference between success and failure is measured in milliseconds,” said Nicholas Collins, president, Telstra Americas.

The platform provides increased control over trading performance thanks to Telstra’s trans-Pacific subsea cable networks. Telstra owns and operates the largest subsea cable system with more than 250,000 miles of subsea cables globally that connects the world with Asia, currently carrying nearly one-third of all Asia-Pacific internet traffic.

Priority end-to-end access to the networks enables financial and trading organizations to respond to market-moving events as they happen and execute investment strategies across Asian, Australian and U.S. capital markets. Additional benefits include Telstra’s network redundancy, resilience and market access.

Deep technology experience and local support staff throughout Asia enables Telstra to quickly implement a pre-built, yet highly adaptable trading platform that can be specifically customized for each organization.

“These are challenging and unprecedented times for global finance, and we believe that the Telstra Octagon will provide both established and upcoming organizations the ability to trade faster across key exchanges between North America and the dynamic markets in the Asia-Pacific region,” Collins continued.

CME Group Announces Launch of New Implied Volatility Indexes

First CVOL offerings to include 10-Year Treasury Note and G5 FX currency pair indexes

PR Newswire

CHICAGO, Nov. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — CME Group, the world’s leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, today announced it began daily publication of a suite of new implied volatility benchmark indexes based on its innovative, proprietary CME Group Volatility Index (CVOL™) methodology. Beginning with eight implied volatility indexes on its 10-Year Treasury Note futures and G5 FX currency pair futures, the CVOL family of indexes will be expanded to include benchmarks across all major asset classes in the first half of 2021.

“Traders already rely on CME Group’s deep and liquid options markets to monitor, hedge against, or express views on volatility across all major asset classes ahead of market-moving events,” said Derek Sammann, CME Group Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Commodities and Options Products. “Our new suite of CME Group Volatility Indexes now make implied volatility information directly available to clients. Going forward, by applying the CVOL methodology to all of our futures benchmarks across asset classes, we will be able to deliver a precise and consistent measure of volatility to market participants, ranging from Fixed Income and FX to Energy, Metals and Agricultural markets.”

The CVOL indexes measure the 30-day forward-looking implied volatility of an underlying futures contract based on the information contained in the prices of CME Group’s robust options on futures markets. The CVOL methodology incorporates every single strike price on the implied volatility curve, not just at-the-money options prices, to calculate a single volatility value called simple variance, which will allow clients to easily track and compare this metric across all available CVOL indexes.

Initially, the daily indexes will be available with two years of historical data on the seven individual treasury and FX volatility indexes, as well as an aggregate G5 FX currency index:

  • 10-Year Treasury CVOL Index (price and yield volatility indexes)
  • G5 FX CVOL Index
  • EUR/USD CVOL Index
  • GBP/USD CVOL Index
  • JPY/USD CVOL Index
  • AUD/USD CVOL Index
  • CAD/USD CVOL Index

In addition to the index volatility value, clients can access three additional indicators for each of the CVOL benchmark indexes to better understand market sentiment:

  • Up Variance – index on calls only
  • Down Variance – index on puts only
  • Skew – difference between Up Variance and Down Variance

CVOL is a family of benchmarks, designed on the basis of industry best practices and the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks. CME Group Benchmark Administration Limited (CBA) is the benchmark administrator with Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (CME Inc.) providing Calculation Agent services.

CME Group Volatility Indexes will be available via our CVOL Index Visualizer tool, powered by QuikStrike and through CME Datamine, with calculations made daily, updated at the end of every trading session. For more information on CVOL indexes and methodology, please visit www.cmegroup.com/cvol.

As a leading and diverse derivatives market operator, CME Group is the parent of four U.S.-based designated contract markets (“DCMs”): Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. (“CME”), Board of Trade of the City of Chicago, Inc. (“CBOT”), New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc. (“NYMEX”), and the Commodity Exchange, Inc. (“COMEX”) (collectively, the “CME Group Exchanges”). These exchanges offer a wide range of products available cross all major asset classes, including futures and options based on interest rates, equity indexes, foreign exchange, energy, metals and agricultural commodities. CME Group offers futures trading through the CME Globex® electronic trading platform (“Globex”), fixed income trading via BrokerTec, foreign exchange trading on the EBS platform, and central counterparty clearing services through CME Clearing, a division of CME. With a range of pre- and post-trade products and services underpinning the entire lifecycle of a trade, CME Group also offers optimization services through TriOptima and trade processing and reconciliation services through Traiana and RESET. CBA capitalizes on CME Group’s wealth of electronic transaction-based data in the calculation of its indices and benchmarks.

Infortrend EonStor CS Scale-out NAS supports RDMA

PR Newswire

TAIPEI, Nov. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Infortrend® Technology, Inc. (TWSE: 2495), the industry-leading enterprise storage provider, has implemented RDMA for internal networks of EonStor CS scale-out NAS to boost the overall cluster performance. Among the applications that can fully take advantage of the technology there are big data analysis, massive parallel high-performance computing (HPC), and machine learning.

EonStor CS is a scale-out NAS system. By adding more CS nodes, enterprises can get a high performance and high capacity cluster system with up to 100+ GBps Read/Write speed and more than 100PB of storage for the needs of future data growth. Scale-out expansion offers an easier and more cost-effective way of managing growing data while reducing consequent performance bottlenecks. CS also simplifies data management by integrating data from all nodes into one cluster system.

As a cluster system, CS nodes use internal network for nodes intercommunication. Infortrend implements Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) for cluster internal network communications to significantly improve the CS cluster performance by up to 30%. For preventing data loss and ensuring data protection, CS is designed with support of node protection Erasure Code and Replica modes which are also executed between nodes via cluster internal network. With RDMA support, CS nodes’ CPU are offloaded from data copies, and this allows cluster nodes to perform data I/O workloads directly through the memory (‘zero-copy networking’ feature). With lowered CPU load, significantly shortened network latency, and higher bandwidth, CS RDMA cluster system boosts network and host performance by leveraging its CPU for processing massive data I/O and increases IOPS.

“Enterprises can now experience higher performance gains and lowered I/O latency of EonStor CS scale-out NAS cluster. RDMA allows to bypass CPU and release its resources for applications requiring high IOPS and HPC processing massive amounts of data,” said Frank Lee, Senior Director of Product Planning.

Diageo North America Honors Veterans Day With Employees and Community Partners Assembling 10,000 Care Packages from Home for Deployed Military

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — To honor Veterans Day this year, Diageo North America employees assembled 10,000 care packages from their homes for American military heroes serving overseas. This initiative contributed to the Crown Royal Purple Bag Project, which packs essentials, personal care items and handwritten notes in the brand’s iconic purple bags and sends them to our troops as a symbol of generosity. After over a decade of supporting the military, Crown Royal recently celebrated a momentous milestone and packed its one millionth purple bag.

The Diageo employee packing party event, now in its fifth year, was originally created to show appreciation for those serving in the military. This year, it was held virtually for the first time and featured a fireside chat with Debra Crew, President of Diageo North America and US Army Veteran, and special guests from the company’s non-profit partners and community, including Packages From Home, iPads for Soldiers and the Kappa Epsilon Psi (KEΨ) Military Sorority. Hundreds of employees joined the celebration and volunteered by packing bags with essentials, decorating care packages with uplifting pictures and messages or writing letters.

“This year has been unlike any other and, as a veteran myself, it makes me very proud to continue this tradition of honor at Diageo and show our gratitude to all those who serve our country,” said Crew. “We had an overwhelming response from our employees, many of whom included their families in the virtual packing this year. I can tell you from experience that the generosity and enthusiasm of our team and charitable partners makes an enormous connection and positive impact with the military community.”

As in previous years, Diageo partnered with non-profit organizations such as Packages from Home, the official charity partner of the Crown Royal Purple Bag Project, and iPads for Soldiers, an organization that provides iPads to soldiers in battle and wounded warriors as morale boosters and key elements in the recovery process.

To support veterans and active duty personnel in ways that make a direct and meaningful impact on their lives and the lives of their families, the company developed the Diageo Salutes the Troops program. In addition to the year-round community service events and charitable donations of this program, other efforts conducted by the company in appreciation of the military community include:

  • Through Diageo’s Learning Skills for Life program, the company partnered with the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston to support military veterans by offering technical and life skills-based training. The Learning Skills for Life program provides free learning and career opportunities within the hospitality industry to people who don’t have access to proper training.
  • The Veterans and Friends of Veterans Business Resource Group is a group created by employees committed to making Diageo a great place to work for all those who have served.
  • The Veteran Buddy System, launched by Veterans and Friends of Veterans at Diageo North America, assists newly-hired veterans in their transition from active duty service to working life at Diageo.

The highest bidder will then receive their one-of-a-kind doll in a special display case via white glove delivery. The three collector dolls feature the following details:

2020 American Girl Sweet as a Rose Collector Doll

This stunning brunette doll is decked out in a petal pink ballet-style ballgown blooming with delicate organza rosettes. Each flower is individually adorned with Swarovski crystals, and the intricately beaded bodice and satin overskirt shimmer with more than 1,000 crystals and beads, making the doll sparkle no matter which way it spins. This exclusive outfit was completely hand-embellished by Swarovski couturiers; and includes a one-of-a-kind, crystal-encrusted tiara plus sparkling bracelets and earrings. The Sweet as a Rose doll is on display at American Girl Place-Chicago on Michigan Avenue.

2020 American Girl Boho Chic Collector Doll

With long honey-colored curls and an empire-waist gown, this elegant doll sparkles with modern bohemian flair. The ice-blue bell-sleeved dress has 2,200 hand-appliquéd Swarovski crystals and crystal beads, creating the dress’s spectacularly sparkly wavelike design. The sheer organza overlay is adorned with a web of metallic blue fibers for extra shimmer. The look also includes a beautiful matching tiara and earrings. The Boho Chic doll is on display at American Girl Place-Los Angeles at The Grove retail and entertainment complex.

2020 American Girl Fuchsia Feathers Collector Doll

This glamorous one-of-a-kind ballgown and accessories feature lavish layers of fuchsia, pink, and pewter feathers on the full skirt, creating an ombre effect that beautifully sets off the doll’s long black hair. The fuchsia satin bodice is embellished with 1,400 colorful Swarovski crystals and crystal beads. Strands of sparkling crystals and beads adorn the matching tiara and earrings, as well as peek out from the feathered skirt, so the doll glitters from head to toe. The Fuchsia Feathers doll is on display at American Girl Place-New York at 75 Rockefeller Plaza.

Eric Russack, Managing Director of Swarovski North America stated, “We’re thrilled to once again partner with American Girl to create this year’s bespoke collectible dolls and adding the Swarovski sparkle to their exclusive 2020 American Girl Holiday Collector Dolls.
