BRIGHTSPACE INTEGRATION WITH MICROSOFT TEAMS IS NOW LIVE

D2L Enhancing Online Learning Through Collaboration

Kitchener, Waterloo, Dec. 08, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — D2L, a global learning technology leader, announced today that its Brightspace learning management system (LMS) will now seamlessly integrate with Microsoft Teams, one of the leading online collaboration platforms, for customers in North America and Europe.

The newly introduced Brightspace Course Connector for Microsoft Teams, which went live on October 1, will allow educators to create a private Teams space for courses in the Brightspace platform with a single click and without having to enter any additional logins. Once created, educators and learners will be able to open their Teams space from within the Brightspace course.

The integration combines the strength and versatility of Brightspace as a learning platform with the power of Teams to bring people together as colleagues and co-learners. For example, user enrollments will now be automatically synchronized between the two platforms. To utilize Teams within the Brightspace platform, users will need a Microsoft 365 license.

“The Brightspace and Microsoft Teams integration has allowed our faculty and students to chat and collaborate with ease from within the LMS,” says Jeffrey Schwarts, Manager of Instructional Technology at Loyola Marymount University. “Collaborating and building community online can be difficult, and this new functionality has been a valuable addition to our academic technology suite, especially while we’re all teaching and learning online due to COVID.”

“We’re thrilled to take this collaboration with Microsoft Teams live for our customers in North America and Europe. It’s making the learning experience richer and much more collaborative, and furthering D2L’s goal to deliver quality online learning experiences versus basic remote learning,” says David Koehn, SVP, Product Management at D2L. “Online learning is a fact of life because of COVID. We’re always looking for ways to make the experience as seamless and engaging as possible. Course Connector is a major step in that direction.”

“It has always been important for educators and learners to have the online tools they need but today, in a world where the digitization of education is imperative, it has never been more important to help students succeed,” said Marc Seaman, VP of Education at Microsoft Canada. “At Microsoft, we have always believed in putting the best technology in the hands of educators and learners and, working with D2L gives us another opportunity to do exactly that.”

NEW YORK, Dec. 08, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Verizon is teaming with Simon Fuller, guiding light behind the Spice Girls, legendary creator of the American Idol franchise and founder of XIX Entertainment, to transform storytelling and entertainment using 5G, virtual reality (VR) and extended reality (XR). Verizon will work with Simon and his XIX team to conceptualize and create a sequence of new entertainment experiences powered by Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband. XIX will be collaborating with Verizon’s XR and 5G Labs to craft new storytelling experiences. The content that Verizon and XIX create together will be optimized for audiences empowered with 5G-connected devices or next-gen entertainment devices like VR headsets or AR glasses.

The companies’ first project is expected to be a short-form VR experience designed by Fuller and his team using custom, industry-leading 360 Stereoscopic 3D cameras and maximizing the visual and audio fidelity of VR headsets, to create superior and more immersive experiences.

“By leveraging 5G Ultra Wideband and XR capabilities, we’re able to create immersive stories that relay emotional depth and bring the wider possibility of what 5G means for entertainment into view,” said Erin McPherson, Head of Consumer Content and Programming at Verizon. “Simon’s track record in creating game-changing moments in popular culture speaks for itself and this first project is the tip of the iceberg. SwaddleDesigns Cotton Flannel Face Masks are the Best Masks for Cold Winter Weather

Made in USA, SwaddleDesigns Cotton Flannel Masks Help Stop COVID-19 Spread and Keep Your Face Comfortably Warm

Seattle, WA, Dec. 08, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In the winter months, in the era of COVID, when all Americans should wear face masks, SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel face masks play a dual role – to help stop COVID spread and to protect one’s face from winter chill.

SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel masks are the best cool weather masks for the whole family. Children, teens and adults love SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel cozy softness.

Made in the USA using premium cotton flannel, SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel face masks are comfortable, secure, and feel soft on your face.

Designed by Lynette Damir, RN, SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel masks are fitted to provide smooth coverage of cheeks, nose, and mouth. The cotton flannel face masks are incredibly soft, because SwaddleDesigns uses award-winning Ultimate Swaddle Blanket cotton flannel that has been used by millions of new parents to welcome their newborn baby.

“When our customers tell us that SwaddleDesigns cotton flannel masks are absolutely their favorite masks, it is a wonderful feeling to know that our masks are providing them with comfort and protection during this difficult time,” said Lynette Damir, RN, founder and CEO of SwaddleDesigns. “With winter cold temperatures, it is time to use a cotton flannel mask, because the masks that kept your face cool in the summer months are not designed for cold weather.”

“It’s an important time for Americans to protect one another from this contagious airborne virus by wearing a mask that covers both their mouth and nose,” continued Lynette. “As the surge builds momentum, it is crucial for more Americans to MaskUp using a well-designed mask that fully covers their nose.”

In March 2020, SwaddleDesigns converted their US baby blanket factory to start production of reusable cloth masks. Using her healthcare background, textile expertise, and scientific studies on masks, Lynette designed reusable cloth masks with a focus on comfort and secure fit. In early 2020, Wake Forest researchers concluded that cotton flannel was one of the best fabrics for effective droplet filtration.

SwaddleDesigns collection features face masks for the whole family with Large, Medium, and Child sizes.

SwaddleDesigns offers custom printing for schools, business, organizations, and government customers.

Based in Seattle, SwaddleDesigns is woman-owned busines and founded by Lynette Damir, RN.

Insight, Microshare Partner on IoT-based Contact Tracing to Help Prevent Spread of Disease

Insight, Microshare Partner on IoT-based Contact Tracing to Help Prevent Spread of Disease

The Insight Connected Platform combined with Microshare’s wearable sensing technology accelerate the ability for organizations to quickly perform contact tracing while maintaining user privacy

TEMPE, Ariz.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–
Insight Enterprises (NASDAQ: NSIT), the global integrator of Insight Intelligent Technology Solutions™ for organizations of all sizes, today announced the wearable Insight Connected Platform™ for Contact Tracing solution in collaboration with Microshare Inc., a Philadelphia-based data solutions company.

As another facet of the Insight Connected Platform for Detection and Prevention, the contact tracing solution helps prioritize both the health and privacy of customers and employees. It empowers organizations to quickly deploy and easily manage an effective system to identify potential infection incidents with greater immediacy. Timing is critical, as up to 79.9% of COVID-19 transmissions can be prevented with immediate tracing and testing, yet effectiveness is reduced to 41.8% after three days and just 4.9% with a seven-day delay, according to clinical research.

With this new solution, simple wearable devices and hardware securely collect contact data, which is aggregated and processed by the Insight Connected Platform, a flexible, scalable Internet of Things (IoT) application for managing people, places, equipment and alerts. Insight’s IoT platform brings together Microshare® Universal Contact Tracing technology, Kerlink® Wanesy wave scanners and industrial-grade LoRaWAN® gateways.

“Well into this pandemic and with a vaccine on the horizon, companies might be reluctant to invest in stand-alone contact-tracing technologies. But this solution and our partnership with Microshare consider broader, enduring needs to safeguard environments and establish smarter facilities,” said Stan Lequin, senior vice president and general manager, Digital Innovation, Insight. “The societal implications of this virus will be long lasting – businesses will be held to new, higher standards when it comes to keeping high-traffic areas sanitized and employees safe and healthy. The same technology being used for contract tracing also can be implemented to solve other business issues.”

The emerging partnership currently has multiple pilot deployments in flight, and both Insight’s and Microshare’s detection and prevention technologies have been previously deployed in retail small businesses, large corporate facilities, factories, residential buildings, hospitals, assisted-living facilities and schools.

Ron Rock, Microshare CEO and co-founder, said: “The Insight Connected Platform represents a step forward in integrating solutions that address COVID-19 and those which lock in the safety and wellness that will be demanded as a requirement of the post-pandemic world. Our collaboration with Insight will accelerate that goal.”

The contact tracing solution helps prevent the spread of disease within a public space by:

  • Helping keep people at safe distances as they return to work (and play) by using Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) sensors on badges, lanyards and wearables
  • Providing real-time visual alerts to gently remind people to keep a safe distance
  • Leveraging location beacons to track where deep cleaning might be needed
  • Sending data to the cloud when a proximity event – two or more people in close contact for a certain period of time – occurs to help track social-distance behaviors and provide updates on areas that need attention
  • Leveraging archived data to run reports and trace sensors of anyone who might have come in contact in the event of a new virus case

The Insight Connected Platform securely aggregates data from all connected devices and systems throughout a facility – from contact tracing and thermal cameras to smart equipment and sensors – via a user-friendly application. The platform simplifies how organizations gain new insights across the business to track trends and receive alerts to drive quicker, intelligent decision-making. The solution also supports roles and permissions to ensure the right data goes to the right people so privacy and security is appropriately maintained.

Insight and Microshare will host a “Contact Tracing 101” webinar on Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, explaining what businesses should know about digital contact tracing. Visit insight.com to register for the event.
