U.S. SURGEON GENERAL VICE ADMIRAL JEROME M. ADAMS URGES UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES TO HELP DRIVE DONATIONS OF COVID-19 CONVALESCENT PLASMA

Washington, D.C., Jan. 14, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As U.S. COVID-19 cases increase, U.S. Surgeon General VADM Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH, issued a letter calling on universities and colleges to activate students and faculty who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP). Nearly 400,0001 students and educators at American colleges and universities have tested positive for COVID-19, meaning they are likely to carry virus-fighting antibodies.

“The nationwide increase in COVID-19 infections has caused a massive spike in demand for CCP. In fact, more than 350,000 Americans have received this treatment and physicians continue to request CCP for their patients,” said Surgeon General Adams. “That demand is quickly approaching more than 30,000 units per week. Currently we are on par for collecting 30,000 units/week, but with increasing demand, it becomes more challenging to support the need.”

In his letter to university and college leaders, Surgeon General Adams encouraged not only individual donations but also called on campus communities to consider hosting safe, socially-distanced CCP collection events or CCP drives. “Colleges and universities only need to provide the space, volunteers and donors,” he noted. “The blood centers will provide everything else necessary to host a successful CCP drive.”

Current scientific studies show that treating COVID-19 patients with convalescent plasma is safe and, when it’s given early and contains a high concentration of antibodies, it can help reduce the risk of death.2 The FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization3 guides the clinical use of CCP in hospitals and larger studies currently being led by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will add new learnings.

“In addition to social distancing, wearing a face covering, and practicing good hygiene—donating CCP is another way that the nation can continue to fight back against COVID-19,” wrote Surgeon General Adams.

Individuals seeking to donate, and colleges and universities interested in holding a plasma collection drive, should contact their closest licensed blood and plasma donor center, which can be located by visiting TheFightIsInUs.org.

When it comes to filling the tag of a lifetime, having the right gear matters. The Big Game Edition is designed to navigate extreme terrain where the biggest trophies live. It’s equipped with key upgrades that provide an edge when hauling gear into the backcountry and game back to basecamp, highlighted by the following:

  • More Clearance and Traction – The Big Game Edition features high-clearance arched A-arms and 29-inch Maxxis® tires, providing more ground clearance, traction and cornering stability for navigating over rocks, through ruts and around switchbacks.
  • Self-Leveling Rear Suspension – For added capability to clear obstacles when hauling gear and game, the vehicle’s rear suspension automatically adjusts to maintain ride height and make the most of the class-leading 14 inches of ground clearance.

  • Exclusive Polaris Pursuit Camo – Remain hard to see but impossible to ignore in the Big Game Edition with exclusive Polaris Pursuit camo covering the machine from tip-to-tail, featuring a unique mix of birch, oak and pine elements.
  • Striking LED Headlights – With 90-percent more output than halogens, LED headlights provide better visibility in low-light conditions for those early morning starts and evening treks back to basecamp.

The Waterfowl Edition is engineered for those looking to travel to where the ducks and geese are and get their limit. It’s factory-equipped to transport hunters and their gear to the blind with ease. Polaris started with its flagship RANGER XP 1000 and added key features to meet the unique needs of waterfowl hunters, including:

  • 29-Inch Pro Armor Mud XC Tires – For powering though wet and muddy conditions, the 29-inch Pro Armor Mud XC tires provide maximum clearance and traction yet maintain a smooth ride on trails.
  • More Ground Clearance – High-clearance arched A-arms maximize the 14 inches of ground clearance to confidently pass over logs, rocks and submerged objects that are both wide and tall.
  • Engineered to Navigate Water – High-mount air intakes and clutch ducting allow clean, cool air to enter the engine when traversing water, while winch and electrical components are sealed to prevent water intrusion.
  • Exclusive Polaris Pursuit Camo – The Waterfowl Edition features an all-new, exclusive camo pattern that is meticulously designed to mimic the nuances of marsh grasses for maximum concealment.
  • Striking LED Headlights – Get to the blind, set up decoys and be in position before first light with high-output LED headlights illuminating the way.

Polaris Takes Trail Riding to the Next Level with the New RZR Trail Lineup

Polaris Takes Trail Riding to the Next Level with the New RZR Trail Lineup

Elevated Comfort & Tech Features Make the Ultimate Trail Machines Better Than Ever for 2021

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–
Polaris Off-Road is proud to announce the next evolution in trail adventure with the 2021 RZR Trail and Trail S lineup. Offering all-new styling, leading trail capability, improved rider comfort and unmatched off-road technology in both the 50” RZR Trail and 60” RZR Trail S models, Polaris has made the industry’s undisputed leader in trail riding even better.

In 2007, Polaris started a recreation sport side-by-side market with the launch of the Polaris RANGER RZR 800. Since then, Polaris has led the way in trail performance and remained the market leader of the trail segment. With the all-new RZR Trail lineup, Polaris demonstrates that its commitment to innovation and meeting the needs of riders is stronger than ever.

“The RZR Trail was already an incredible, purpose-built machine, however, with the feedback of our owners we’ve refined and elevated the experience, with an emphasis on comfort and ergonomics,” said Steven Menneto, President of Polaris Off-Road. “The RZR Trail and Trail S lineup offer an unmatched combination of trail agility and advanced technology to give customers more value for a better ride experience.”

The RZR Trail and Trail S models feature all-new styling and have a narrow stance and the shortest wheelbase, making it easier for riders to maneuver on twisting trails and windy routes. Pair that with class-leading power-to-weight, turning radius and fast engaging all-wheel drive, riders will be able to quickly accelerate between corners and choose their line around obstacles for the most agile trail ride ever.

On top of designing one of the most capable trail vehicles, Polaris Off-Road has further refined rider comfort with a new adjustable steering wheel position that repositions rider posture to have shoulders comfortably back against the seat. Keep trail debris out of the cab with new, sturdy full doors and receive more rear coverage from the factory with the new wrap-around roll cage. Add best-in-class suspension travel and ground clearance to soak up the bumps for a plush ride, and RZR Trail and Trail S make the last mile feel as comfortable as the first.

To further elevate the ride experience, Polaris is now offering the most advanced off-road technology to the trail segment. Ride Command is an integrated, seven-inch glove-touch display that offers access to features like maps to help discover new trails, GPS to support navigation and Group Ride so your crew can stay connected and out of each other’s dust. RZR Trail and Trail S also offer the first-ever factory audio from Rockford Fosgate® for this segment, allowing riders to easily share and enjoy music on the trail. To keep the ride going, the new LED headlights and accent lights will light up the trail even after the sun sets.

To ensure riders have everything needed to customize their vehicles, a lineup of 29 new accessories are also being launched for the RZR Trail and Trail S models.
