Introducing the New i-BMS Battery Management System for Electrified Applications up to 60V

The brain behind the battery for a diverse range of electric vehicles, the BMS is the intelligent component that monitors and manages lithium-ion battery packs. The new i-BMS Battery Management System from Lithium Balance, acquired by Sensata earlier in the year, is a cell chemistry agnostic, compact, integrated BMS developed for the cost-optimized mass-production of applications up to 60V, such as 2-, and 3-wheelers, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and robotics.

The i-BMS is a long-term solution for customers who require the highest levels of safety, performance and measurement accuracy. The solution features key components that are ASIL C Safety rated and self-test capability for safety critical measurement circuits.

While measuring only 65 x 200 mm, the i-BMS is equipped with everything required to manage and maintain a battery system without the need for any external components. This includes a built-in pre-charge circuit, on-board current measurement, MOSFET power switches for battery disconnect, and a DC/DC power supply.

The i-BMS’ software design features parallel pack and hot swap capability, while advanced SoX algorithms ensure high precision. In April 2022, 20 students will be awarded for their solutions to social issues, and five for their solutions to financial barriers. Each winner will be awarded $5,000 plus an all-expenses-paid trip to Prudential’s headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, for a recognition event. During this event, the five honorees in the financial solutions category will pitch their ideas to Prudential leaders and one grand prize winner will receive $15,000.  

Winners will also have the opportunity to consult with Prudential leaders about strategies to advance their work, and to participate in a coaching program with employees to refine their projects.

Prudential is partnering with Ashoka, a leading organization in the social impact sector, who will help develop winners’ skills through ongoing workshops and online courses with advisory support from the Financial Health Network, a leading authority on financial health and longtime partner of The Prudential Foundation.

The new direction is lauded by 20-year-old Joshua Williams, a 2013 Prudential honoree and Ashoka Young Changemaker who runs Joshua’s Heart Foundation, which has distributed more than 3 million pounds of food to impoverished families around the world. “It’s wonderful to see the program evolving and adapting to become Prudential Emerging Visionaries. The U.S. is in a critical time where youth leaders are going to be needed more than ever to guide us into the future, and I know firsthand that they are key to creating lasting change to societal and financial issues.”

Applications for the program are open now through November 4. Awards are open to students ages 14-18 in the U.S. Prudential will continue to operate Spirit of Community in countries where the company has a significant business presence including Brazil, China, India and Japan, and will transition to the new operating model in subsequent program cycles.

Norfolk Southern Grants $400,000 to Food Banks to Combat Food Insecurity

Grants will support 31 food banks across 22 states

ATLANTA, Sept. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) today announced $400,000 in grants to 31 food banks located across the states served by the company. The funds will directly support local efforts to combat food insecurity, as well as other assistance initiatives supporting children, families, and senior citizens. This latest set of grants builds on Norfolk Southern’s longstanding commitment of giving to these critical community organizations.

The funds will help combat food insecurity and support other initiatives for children, families, and senior citizens

Every community in the United States is home to families who face food insecurity. According to the most recent research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 10.5% of households nationally (13.7 million people) were food insecure at some time during 2019. Further, households with children had a substantially higher rate of food insecurity than those without children.

Ally also announces annual stock program in effort to become more equitable employer of choice

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Continuing the trend of recognizing and valuing all employees, Ally Financial Inc. (NYSE: ALLY) today announced that it will increase its minimum hourly wage to $20 from $17, effective Sept. 13.

Ally’s increased minimum wage and related adjustments will benefit more than 2,300 current teammates and further position the company as a leader in frontline pay.

“Raising our minimum wage is simply the right thing to do, but it’s about more than providing greater financial stability to our hourly workers—it’s about creating a stronger culture, better serving our customers and recognizing the importance of the work being done across our company,” said Jeffrey J. Brown, CEO of Ally Financial.

Further supporting the company’s commitment to building greater equity, Ally also announced that all eligible employees will be awarded Ally stock annually through the company’s #OwnIt Annual Grant Program. Awarded grants are dependent on the financial performance of the company and evaluation by the company’s board of directors; they are expected to be issued annually in January.

Prior to the launch of this annual program, eligible Ally teammates were awarded company stock in both 2020 and 2021. The 2020 #OwnIt recipients’ grants are up 61% in value from the original awards as of close of business Sept. 3, 2021.

In addition, Ally has increased efforts to recruit across the organization, hiring more than 1,000 roles before year end, including approximately 500 roles in technology. To support that effort, Ally will donate up to $50,000—$250 for every technology hire made through Dec. 31, 2021—and split the funds between Women Who Code and Blacks in Technology.
