Since the fires began, Walmart teams have been working closely with local leaders and community organizations including Innovia Foundation, Save The Children, Second Harvest Food Bank, Spokane Public Schools, and Spokane County Emergency Management to understand needs and support the broader response.<\/p>\n<p><b>A Community Facing the Fires<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\nThe Spokane Complex Fires have upended lives with over 625 residential structures lost and over 1,300 residents affected by evacuations.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cFamilies across the Spokane region have experienced tremendous loss, including some of our own associates. We know the days ahead will be difficult, and we want them to know Walmart is standing with them. We\u2019re working with trusted organizations across the region to help provide food, essential items and other immediate support to families who need it most,\u201d says Jay Cordray, SVP, West Business Unit.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Supporting Immediate Relief<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\nThe company\u2019s response includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\nA <b>$500,000 commitment from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation<\/b>, distributed between grants and in-kind support, to help meet urgent needs across communities impacted.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistcircle\">\n<li>\nGrant funding directed to organizations providing relief and direct household assistance in some of the hardest-hit communities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nIn-kind support to help address critical needs, including food and water, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, diapers, and other essential items for displaced families and communities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Walmart Store 5883<\/b> is serving as a gathering place for nonprofit and community organizations supporting the response. Located near Incident Command, an evacuation center and first-responder operations, the store has become an important location for those serving the community.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nAs families across the region prepare for the school year, Walmart is also working with Spokane Public Schools to help students and families replace school supplies and other essentials lost in the fires.
