Foundation Awards Nearly $16 Million to Literacy Programs Across the Country; Grant Amount Surpasses Previous One-Day Record Set in 2025<\/i><\/p>\n

\nFor the second consecutive year, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) set a record for its largest one\u2011day grant announcement by awarding nearly $16 million today to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs across the country. The grants will positively support more than 1,400 schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations and approximately 1.5 million individuals. The milestone surpasses the Foundation\u2019s previous record of more than $13.2 million granted in May 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cSince the Foundation\u2019s inception in 1993, our focus has remained on making meaningful investments in students, teachers, and the organizations that support literacy and learning at every stage of life,\u201d said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. \u201cWe are grateful for the impact teachers and educators make every day and are excited to have another record setting year of helping expand literacy access for learners of all ages. These funds will help educators enhance their instruction and create opportunities that help empower students to reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThe Dollar General Literacy Foundation annually awards grants to public schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center. Since its founding 33 years ago by Dollar General\u2019s (NYSE: DG) former CEO, Cal Turner, Jr., the DGLF has awarded more than $292 million to literacy efforts across the country.<\/p>\n

\nThe Foundation plans to launch its seventh annual The Yellow Glasses Project<\/a> campaign on July 20, 2026, in which customers can purchase yellow sunglasses at Dollar General stores for $2 each to benefit the DGLF. Additionally, the Foundation plans to announce its 2026 youth literacy grant recipients in September 2026, and applications for the 2027 literacy grant cycle are currently scheduled to open in January 2027.<\/p>\n
