Completed in 1869 at Promontory Summit, Utah, the railroad line took 20,000 people to build over six years and revolutionized trade and travel in the U.S., reducing a once-hazardous three-month journey by horse and wagon to less than a week by rail from New York to California.<\/p>\n<p>\nBig Boy No. 4014 is the world\u2019s largest operating steam locomotive, weighing 1.2 million pounds and 133 feet long \u2013 which is a little over half the length of a Boeing 747.
