Led by a strong opening from AVATAR: FIRE & ASH, the domestic industry box office showed significant depth, with five different movie titles reported to have generated at least $14 million each over the weekend<\/i><\/p>\n

In the U.S., moviegoers sought out AVATAR: FIRE & ASH in 3D, with approximately 67% of AMC admissions revenue coming from IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, and RealD 3D screenings<\/i><\/p>\n

\nAMC Entertainment (NYSE: AMC), the largest theatrical exhibitor in the United States and the world, today announced a strong opening-weekend performance for AVATAR: FIRE & ASH at AMC\u2019s U.S. theatres and internationally at ODEON Cinemas. Combined with solid performances from several other new releases and holdover films, AMC enjoyed its best pre-Christmas holiday weekend since 2021, based on attendance and admissions revenue.<\/p>\n

\nIn total, more than 4 million moviegoers watched a film at AMC Theatres and ODEON Cinemas from Thursday, December 18, through Sunday, December 21.<\/p>\n

\nAttendance was driven primarily by AVATAR: FIRE & ASH, which opened to a reported $88 million domestically and $345 million globally this past weekend. At AMC\u2019s U.S. theatres, 3D was the most popular way to experience the third installment of this blockbuster franchise. Approximately 2\/3rds of AMC U.S. admissions revenue for AVATAR: FIRE & ASH came from IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, and RealD 3D showtimes.<\/p>\n

\nAlso impressive was the balance across the box office. For the first time in 2025, it is estimated that five films earned at least $14 million each at the domestic box office in a single weekend. As of Sunday, new releases DAVID, THE HOUSEMAID, and THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS, along with holdover ZOOTOPIA 2, were all estimated to reach that milestone.<\/p>\n
