New research from Nextdoor Canada, conducted in partnership with Angus Reid, shows that <b>20% of Canadians say they are currently struggling to afford groceries, while 39% report personally knowing someone facing food insecurity. <\/b>With nearly <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Ffoodbankscanada.ca%2Fhunger-in-canada%2Fhungercount%2Foverall-findings%2F&amp;esheet=54378851&amp;newsitemid=20251217532722&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=2.2+million+Canadians&amp;index=2&amp;md5=8a1971a81877a7b43565701882965cf4\">2.2 million Canadians<\/a> expected to rely on food banks this month, the scale and urgency of the challenge is impossible to ignore.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMore findings from the survey include:\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\n60% of Canadians plan to donate or have already donated to a local food bank or food drive in their neighbourhood<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistcircle\">\n<li>\nWith those the most likely to donate being those aged 55+ (70%), residents in British Columbia (62%) and households that make over $100K (64%)\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nHowever, only about half of Canadians (51%) are confident they know where their nearest food bank is. Nearly 1 in 3 (32%) simply do not know.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistcircle\">\n<li>\nWith smaller provinces (Atlantic Canada ranking 61% awareness) showing significantly higher food bank visibility than larger provinces (Ontario ranking 50% awareness)\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nThe Nextdoor Foundation has granted $70,000 CAD to support Food Banks Canada\u2019s mission to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.
