\n Geneva, Switzerland, September 22, 2025 — STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM)<\/strong>, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has announced that\u00a0Rias Al-Kadi, General Manager of the Company\u2019s Range and Connectivity Division, has joined the board of directors of the FiRa\u00ae Consortium, the industry body dedicated to advancing secured fine ranging and positioning ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. <\/p>\n

ST is actively driving the development the\u00a0IEEE 802.15.4ab amendment, building upon previous UWB enhancements to further improve system performance and expand UWB\u2019s application scope.\u00a0The ongoing evolution of UWB standards promises significant\u00a0improvements, including centimeter-level accuracy, enhanced security, and reduced power consumption. These improvements are critical for enabling a wide range of applications, from\u00a0automotive access\u00a0and digital keys to\u00a0smart home automation\u00a0and\u00a0IoT innovations. Integrating IEEE 802.15.4ab into the CCC Digital Key ecosystem would represent a major step forward in addressing implementation challenges and accelerate broader adoption of UWB technology in both\u00a0consumer\u00a0and\u00a0automotive markets.<\/p>\n

UWB is a precise ranging and radar technology within the IEEE 802 wireless standards group that also includes WiFi and Bluetooth. With security extensions, standardized under IEEE 802.15.4z, UWB addresses access control use cases, including digital car keys that localize the key in relation to the vehicle.
