With milestone birthdays for these social safety net programs approaching, the survey of over 1,000 Americans found the following:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n        <b>On Medicare and healthcare<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>80% of people not yet enrolled in Medicare worry it won&#8217;t be there for them<\/b>, with members of the Millennial generation the most pessimistic.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>76% of all respondents underestimate or don&#8217;t know the average cost of healthcare in retirement.<\/b> Over one third (40%) expect to spend <span class=\"xn-money\">$100,000<\/span> or less, but <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4465442-1&amp;h=2895132714&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.napa-net.org%2Fnews%2F2024%2F7%2Fheres-how-much-retirees-may-need-healthcare-costs%2F&amp;a=current+estimates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">current estimates<\/a>\u00a0show the average retiree will have nearly <span class=\"xn-money\">$200,000<\/span> in costs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>34% are unwilling to raise taxes or reduce benefits to ensure Medicare&#8217;s survival for future generations<\/b>; 30% are willing to reduce benefits for current Medicare beneficiaries to achieve that goal; and 24% are willing to increase payroll taxes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>78% have a positive view of Medicare<\/b>, but 81% still worry about retirement healthcare costs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n        <b>On Social Security<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>80% of those not yet enrolled in Social Security worry it won&#8217;t be there for them<\/b>, with Baby Boomers the least concerned (68%) and Millennials the most (85%).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>28% of Americans underestimate how long people need to work to qualify for Social Security<\/b>; 26% overestimate the number of years necessary; and 26% don&#8217;t know. The <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4465442-1&amp;h=2759808285&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ssa.gov%2Fbenefits%2Fretirement%2Fplanner%2Fcredits.html&amp;a=correct+length\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">correct length<\/a> (10 years) was selected by 20% of respondents.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>47% of Americans underestimate the average monthly Social Security payment<\/b>, while 35% overestimate it. The <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4465442-1&amp;h=233630840&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kiplinger.com%2Fretirement%2Fsocial-security%2Faverage-monthly-social-security-check&amp;a=correct+amount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">correct amount<\/a> (about <span class=\"xn-money\">$2,000<\/span>) was selected by 17% of respondents.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n          <b>54% of all respondents think Social Security will remain solvent longer than <\/b><br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4465442-1&amp;h=1841114093&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2024%2F05%2F06%2F1249406440%2Fsocial-security-medicare-congress-fix-boomers-benefits&amp;a=current+predictions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><br \/>\n            <b>current predictions<\/b><br \/>\n          <\/a>\u00a0(2033) or don&#8217;t know when it may become insolvent.
