Eligible organizations are invited to apply for grants of up to <span class=\"xn-money\">$25,000<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The impact of Hurricane Helene last fall showed us the importance of strong collaboration between emergency management agencies, first responders and nonprofit organizations when it comes to natural disasters,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Kendal Bowman<\/span>, Duke Energy North Carolina state president. &#8220;We&#8217;re proud to support storm preparedness efforts in the communities we serve as they continue to grow and see new opportunities to bolster resilience to severe weather events.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These grants will support various storm preparedness and natural disaster readiness initiatives, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Programs facilitating collaboration across agencies, sectors and communities for disaster preparedness and response.<\/li>\n<li>Innovative planning initiatives for local communities to prepare for natural disasters and extreme weather.<\/li>\n<li>Local storm preparedness trainings, materials, kits and other community engagement and education initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Specialized training for first responders for natural disaster scenarios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a long-standing priority for Duke Energy Foundation, which has awarded nearly <span class=\"xn-money\">$5.6 million<\/span> to support the state&#8217;s storm preparedness since 2020. Recent examples of storm preparedness grants from the Foundation benefiting <span class=\"xn-location\">North Carolina<\/span> communities include funding for the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Wilmington<\/span> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwaytv3.com\/city-of-wilmington-receives-check-from-duke-energy-for-flood-gauges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">install new flood gauges,<\/a> a <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Raleigh<\/span> initiative to <a href=\"https:\/\/raleighnc.gov\/safety\/news\/radios-can-help-vulnerable-neighborhoods-prepare-severe-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">distribute weather radios to vulnerable neighborhoods<\/a>, a public safety <a href=\"https:\/\/www.personcountync.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/3846\/192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">tethered drone program<\/a> announced by <span class=\"xn-location\">Person County<\/span>, and the purchase of specialized equipment for the <span class=\"xn-location\">Town of Harrisburg&#8217;s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harrisburgnc.org\/DocumentCenter\/View\/10486\/RELEASE--THE-TOWN-OF-HARRISBURG-SWIFT-WATER-RESCUE-TEAM-AWARDED-25000-GRANT-TO-SUPPORT-DISASTER-READINESS-WORK-IN-WESTERN-NORTH-CAROLINA?bidId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">swift water rescue team<\/a>, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be accepted until <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 25<\/span> at <span class=\"xn-chron\">5 p.m. ET<\/span>.
