A low undergraduate GPA placed second at 24%, followed by lack of clinical experience at 20%, and poor letters of recommendation at 10%.\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Artificial Intelligence:<\/b> Only 3% of medical school admissions officers say their school has an official policy allowing applicants to use Generative AI programs such as ChatGPT to write their admissions essays; 36% say they officially prohibit the practice; and 61% say they have no official policy. One admissions officer shared, \u201cApplicants should not use AI to draft essays or personal statements. This is both unethical, disingenuous, and not accurate. Plus, we can tell.\u201d\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Social Media: <\/b>Nearly a third (31%) of medical school admissions officers say they have visited an applicant\u2019s social media profile to learn more about them, up 2 points from 2017, the last time this topic was explored in Kaplan\u2019s med school survey. But a much larger 81% believe the practice is \u201cfair game,\u201d as opposed to 19% who say it\u2019s \u201can invasion of privacy.\u201d\n<\/li>\n<li><b>The Rankings:<\/b> More than six in 10 (63%) admissions officers say the medical school rankings have \u201clost some of their prestige over the past couple of years,\u201d compared to 53% who said this in Kaplan\u2019s 2023 survey. This comes at a time when a number of top medical schools have decided to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aamc.org%2Fnews%2Fmore-medical-schools-withdraw-us-news-rankings-how-should-prospective-students-decide-where-apply&amp;esheet=54161434&amp;newsitemid=20241204142144&amp;lan=en-US&amp;anchor=no+longer+participate+in+the+rankings&amp;index=2&amp;md5=a024ddc84874fa877165b82091108526\">no longer participate in the rankings<\/a> because of the way the rankings are calculated.\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Taking a Stand: <\/b>Admissions officers are largely split on medical schools issuing statements about important political topics and current events, with 41% saying they should, 47% saying they shouldn\u2019t, and 13% unsure.
