(\u201cLSB\u201d or \u201cthe Company\u201d), (NYSE: LXU) and Lapis Energy LP (\u201cLapis\u201d) today jointly announced the filing of a permit application with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (\u201cEPA\u201d) to construct a Class VI well as part of their project to capture and permanently sequester carbon dioxide (\u201cCO<sub>2<\/sub>\u201d) at LSB\u2019s El Dorado, Arkansas facility (\u201cEl Dorado\u201d). Class VI wells are used to inject CO<sub>2 <\/sub>into deep rock formations. This long-term underground storage, called geologic sequestration, reduces atmospheric CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions and helps to mitigate climate change.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nUpon approval of the Class VI permit, Lapis will begin construction on the infrastructure required to capture and sequester CO<sub>2 <\/sub>at El Dorado. The project is targeting the Hosston and the Cotton Valley geologic formations to permanently store the CO<sub>2<\/sub>. Once in operation (target 2025), the sequestered CO<sub>2<\/sub> is expected to reduce LSB\u2019s direct greenhouse gas (\u201cGHG\u201d) emissions by approximately 25% from current levels. In addition, sequestering more than 450,000 metric tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub> annually should allow LSB to produce over 375,000 metric tons of low carbon, or \u201cblue\u201d ammonia annually, a product expected to be more valuable than conventional ammonia. The permanently sequestered CO<sub>2<\/sub> generated from the facility\u2019s ammonia production is expected to qualify for federal tax credits under Internal Revenue Code Section 45Q, which are currently up to $85 per metric ton of CO<sub>2<\/sub> captured beginning in 2026.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nReg Manhas, Lapis Energy\u2019s CEO, stated, \u201cWe are very pleased to have submitted the Class VI permit application to the EPA.
