Study authors say the survival rate gap remained significant when accounting for patients\u2019 ages, overall health, other pre-existing conditions, and causes of death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTreating sleep apnea with PAP therapy may help you live longer; that\u2019s the key takeaway here for people with sleep apnea and their doctors,\u201d said Adam Benjafield, study co-author and ResMed Vice President of Medical Affairs. \u201cThis finding underscores how critical it is to identify the hundreds of millions of people worldwide whose sleep apnea is undiagnosed and untreated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An estimated 936 million people worldwide have sleep apnea<sup>2<\/sup> \u2013 including over 175 million Europeans \u2013 but over 80% remain undiagnosed.<sup>3<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The ALASKA study was conducted in partnership with Professor Jean-Louis P\u00e9pin; universities of Grenoble, San Diego, and Sydney; S\u00eameia; and other researchers from ResMed\u2019s industry-academia collaboration medXcloud.<\/p>\n<p>\n        <strong>ResMed at ERS<\/strong>\n      <\/p>\n<p>This study is one of fourteen ERS-accepted abstracts presented, co-authored, or otherwise supported by ResMed, a global leader in sleep and respiratory care research and digitally connected therapy solutions.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, ResMed\u2019s Benjafield presented the latest estimated prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Europe from 2020 out to 2050.
