The decrease is primarily due to completion of the Phase 2a trial in 2020.\u00a0 For the six months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30, 2021<\/span>, research and development expenses were <span class=\"xn-money\">$0.2 million<\/span> compared to <span class=\"xn-money\">$1.1 million<\/span> for the six months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30<\/span>, 2020.\u00a0 The decrease is due to a decrease in Phase 2a trial related costs which was completed in the second half of 2020 and a decrease in consulting costs.<\/p>\n<p>Selling, general and administrative expenses were <span class=\"xn-money\">$3.9 million<\/span> for the three months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30, 2021<\/span> compared to <span class=\"xn-money\">$0.5 million<\/span> for the three months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30<\/span>, 2020.\u00a0 The increase was primarily due to an increase in stock-based director fees and stock-based compensation, and an increase in professional fees.<\/p>\n<p>For the six months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30, 2021<\/span>, selling, general and administrative expenses were <span class=\"xn-money\">$5.4 million<\/span> compared to <span class=\"xn-money\">$1.1 million<\/span> for the six months ended <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30, 2020<\/span>.
