Accordingly, the sample selection for recent metallurgical test work has favored samples representative of the mineralization in Phase 1, to allow for a greater understanding of optimal leaching operation is also expected to encounter comparatively rare and isolated areas with lower uranium grades and high clay content, which is expected to result in a limited number of zones of reduced permeability. In order to understand the ISR leach dynamics in these areas, test work was also initiated on samples presenting high clay characteristics (above 25% clay). Results obtained from these tests confirm that high clay content can impact the natural permeability of the ore body and lead to lower UBS head-grades.\u00a0 Importantly, these tests also confirm that permeability enhancement techniques have the potential to normalize these areas and significantly improve UBS head-grade concentrations to levels that align with core leach tests carried out using samples with higher grades and lower clay content.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>As outlined in Table 2, below, sample 2A failed to produce an acceptable &#8220;steady-state&#8221; UBS head grade. Sample <span class=\"xn-money\">2B<\/span> was taken from the same drill hole and presented similar mineralogical characteristics as Sample 2A; however, Sample <span class=\"xn-money\">2B<\/span> was modified to simulate the MaxPERF permeability enhancement tool.\u00a0 As is evident from the achievement of a peak UBS head-grade of 76 g\/L and an average UBS head-grade of 24.9 g\/L obtained over 28 days of steady state, the preliminary leaching results from Sample <span class=\"xn-money\">2B<\/span> confirm both the utility of permeability enhancement in normalizing the natural permeability in high clay zones and the appropriateness of the decision to increase the overall UBS head-grade assumption for <span class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span>. The primary purpose of the column leach tests was to recover sufficient volumes of UBS to facilitate bench-scale tests of the unit operations outlined in the flowsheet for the <span class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span> processing plant. \u00a0Over 900 litres of UBS were produced from 64 Kilograms (&#8220;kg&#8221;) of <span class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span> core samples. Combined results from the four column leach tests are highly positive, with calculated UBS head-grade from the four columns averaging 19g\/L, which further supports the decision to increase the overall UBS head-grade assumption for Phoenix.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>While not the primary purpose of the column leach tests, average reagent addition rates from the column leach tests (1.3 kg acid \/ kg U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8 <\/sub>and 1.2 kg oxidant \/ kg U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>) have also provided useful information that is supportive of the values published in the PFS. <\/p>\n<p>The laboratory work for the 2021 Metallurgical Program is being carried out at the Saskatchewan Research Council (&#8220;SRC&#8221;) Mineral Processing and Geoanalytical Laboratories, in <span class=\"xn-location\">Saskatoon<\/span>, under the supervision of Mr. <span class=\"xn-person\">Chuck Edwards<\/span> (P.Eng., FCIM).<\/p>\n<p>\n        <b><br \/>\n          <i>About Phoenix Phase 1<\/i><br \/>\n        <\/b>\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        <i>Phase 1 of\u00a0Phoenix\u00a0is estimated to contain approximately 22.2 million pounds U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> (37,242 tonnes at 27.1% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>, above a cut-off grade of 0.8% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>) in Probable mineral reserves.\u00a0 Based on current designs, the Company estimates approximately 6.6 million pounds U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> (7,717 tonnes at 39.2% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>, above a cut-off grade of 0.8% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>) in Probable mineral reserves are contained within the expected operating perimeter of the Test Pattern (see Figure 1). These estimates are derived as a direct subset of those reported in the Technical Report titled &#8220;Pre-feasibility Study for the Wheeler River Uranium Project,\u00a0Saskatchewan, <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>&#8221; dated\u00a0October 30, 2018\u00a0with an effective date of\u00a0September 24, 2018 (the &#8220;PFS Report&#8221;). The key assumptions, parameters and methods used to estimate the mineral reserves herein remain unchanged.<\/i>\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        <b><br \/>\n          <i>About Wheeler River <\/i><br \/>\n        <\/b>\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        <i>Wheeler River is the largest undeveloped uranium project in the infrastructure rich eastern portion of the <span class=\"xn-location\">Athabasca<\/span> Basin region, in northern <span class=\"xn-location\">Saskatchewan<\/span> \u2013 including combined Indicated Mineral Resources of 132.1 million pounds U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> (1,809,000 tonnes at an average grade of 3.3% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>), plus combined Inferred Mineral Resources of 3.0 million pounds U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> (82,000 tonnes at an average grade of 1.7% U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub>). The project is host to the high-grade <span class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span> and Gryphon uranium deposits, discovered by Denison in 2008 and 2014, respectively, and is a joint venture between Denison (90% and operator) and JCU (<span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span>) Exploration Company Limited (10%).<\/i>\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        <i>A PFS was completed for Wheeler River in late 2018, considering the potential economic merit of developing the <span class=\"xn-location\">Phoenix<\/span> deposit as an ISR operation and the Gryphon deposit as a conventional underground mining operation.\u00a0 Taken together, the project is estimated to have mine production of 109.4 million pounds U<sub>3<\/sub>O<sub>8<\/sub> over a 14-year mine life, with a base case pre-tax NPV of <span class=\"xn-money\">$1.31 billion<\/span> (8% discount rate), Internal Rate of Return (&#8220;IRR&#8221;) of 38.7%, and initial pre-production capital expenditures of <span class=\"xn-money\">$322.5 million<\/span>.
