\n ATLANTA<\/span>, July 8, 2021<\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ —\u00a0A workforce involving hundreds of Georgia Power personnel is assessing damage and working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible to customers impacted by Tropical Storm Elsa. High winds, heavy rain and reported tornadoes have led to fallen trees and downed power lines across coastal Georgia<\/span>. <\/p>\n

As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday<\/span>, approximately 6,350 customers were without power as a result of the storm, with the majority of the outages in Chatham<\/span>, Effingham<\/span> and Glynn<\/span> counties in Southeast Georgia.\u00a0Winds of tropical storm strength for several straight hours Wednesday have downed trees and limbs resulting in broken poles, damaged transformers and spans of wire down. The company expects to have 95 percent of these customers who can accept power restored by 10 p.m.<\/span> tonight. <\/p>\n

Georgia Power has mobilized crews from other parts of the state to assist in restoration efforts. Customers are encouraged to keep safety in mind as dangerous conditions can exist following storms. <\/p>\n
