In 2006, she was nominated and confirmed as the under secretary at the U.S. Department of Education, where she oversaw all policies, programs, and activities related to postsecondary education, vocational and adult education, and federal student aid. Tucker also spent nine years as the CEO and president of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), where she pursued an aggressive goal to double the rate of Hispanics earning college degrees. Prior to that, Tucker spent 16 years at AT&amp;T and became the first Latina to reach the company&#8217;s executive level, first as the vice president of Consumer Operations and then as the regional vice president for AT&amp;T&#8217;s Global Business Communications Systems.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nTucker also has deep board experience. She currently serves on the boards of directors of American Electric Power, Nationwide, and Service Corporation International and serves on the University of Notre Dame\u2019s Board of Fellows and Board of Trustees. She formerly served on the boards of Sprint and Xerox and was formerly the chairman of The University of Texas System Board of Regents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn addition to this appointment, two directors, Elisa Steele and Kristina Salen, will not stand for re-election at the annual meeting.
