These issues negatively affect the speed at which brands can release new features to their end users; they also hit brands\u2019 bottom lines \u2013 as bugs become more expensive and require added effort to fix when found later on in the software development lifecycle (SDLC).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThese findings come from Applause\u2019s April 2021 survey of more than 1,800 QA, product, engineering and DevOps professionals across the globe on the state of shift-left testing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe survey found that, when done correctly, shifting testing left provides unique benefits. Respondents noted that the three top drivers for shifting left are to:\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\nReduce the number of bugs released to end users;\n<\/li>\n<li>\nSave the costs of later-stage bug fixes;\n<\/li>\n<li>\nRelease features\/builds faster.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nHowever, many organizations still face challenges with their shift-left strategy. The survey found that the top two barriers to successfully shifting left are that developers are too busy coding and that development and QA efforts remain siloed. Organizations that have already shifted left face many of the same roadblocks:\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\nFifty-two percent of respondents said the time their organizations\u2019 developers spend on testing is impacting their productivity.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nNearly half (44%) of respondents at large organizations that are already shifting left said their development teams spend a full work day every single week just testing new features.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nWhile the benefits of shifting left are clear, the right processes and technology must be in place to do so successfully.
