In fact, they will have the best luck in <span class=\"xn-location\">Bloomington, Ill.<\/span>, according to realtor.com<sup>\u00ae <\/sup>&#8216;s 2021 <u><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3121728-1&amp;h=4081962052&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.realtor.com%2Fresearch%2Fbloomington-ill-is-the-best-market-for-first-time-home-buyers&amp;a=Best+Markets+for+First-Time+Home+Buyers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Best Markets for First-Time Home Buyers<\/a><\/u> analysis.<\/p>\n<p>With four of the top 10 markets, the Midwest ranks as the best region of the country for first-time home buyers, who according to the National Association of Realtors<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, account for\u00a0nearly one-third of recent buyers. <span class=\"xn-location\">Iowa City, Iowa<\/span>, ranked No. 2 in this analysis followed by <span class=\"xn-location\">Kalamazoo, Mich.<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Great Falls, Mont.<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Eau Claire, Wis.<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Savannah, Ga.<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Schenectady, N.Y.<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Taylorville<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Utah<\/span>; <span class=\"xn-location\">Harrisonburg, Va.<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Rapid City, S.D.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With 50% fewer homes on the market this year than last, the U.S. housing market is competitive for all buyers. First-time buyers are at a bigger disadvantage since they don&#8217;t have the funds from a previous home sale to help with their down payment or compete with bidding wars. Our recent <u><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3121728-1&amp;h=3949030093&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.move.com%2F2021-03-25-The-American-Dream-is-the-No-1-Reason-Why-Millennials-Want-to-Buy-a-Home&amp;a=survey+of+potential+first-time+home+buyers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">survey of potential first-time home buyers<\/a><\/u> confirmed this with 44% indicating they haven&#8217;t saved enough for a down payment,&#8221; said realtor.com<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Chief Economist <span class=\"xn-person\">Danielle Hale<\/span>. &#8220;While relocating isn&#8217;t an option for everyone, the pandemic has caused many to rethink their priorities, including where they want to live. This analysis was meant to provide some insight for those who are open to expanding their search as they weigh their homeowner options.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To determine the best markets for first-time home buyers, the majority of whom are millennials, many between the ages of 25 and 34, realtor.com<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> took into account six factors, including housing prices relative to local incomes, the share of 25- to 34-year-olds living in the market, the availability of homes for sale, job opportunities, distance to work and amenities such as bars and restaurants. To achieve geographic diversification, the ranking was limited to one city per state.<\/p>\n<p>All of the top 10 best markets have median home prices below the current national median price of <span class=\"xn-money\">$370,000<\/span>. <span class=\"xn-location\">Kalamazoo, Mich.<\/span>, has the lowest median home price at <span class=\"xn-money\">$155,000<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Taylorsville, Utah<\/span>, the highest at <span class=\"xn-money\">$350,000<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Nine of the 10 top cities are home to at least one four-year college or university, which likely contributes to the fact that their residents tend to skew younger than the country overall. <span class=\"xn-location\">Savannah, Ga.<\/span>, has the largest share of adults aged 25-to-34 at 16.9% of the city&#8217;s total population. Only <span class=\"xn-location\">Rapid City, S.D.<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Harrisonburg, Va.<\/span>, had a lower share of younger adults than the median national average. What these two cities lack in a younger population they make up for in lower unemployment rates, more food and drink establishments per household and a shorter commute to work than the national average.<\/p>\n<p>For those looking for more homes to choose from, <span class=\"xn-location\">Schenectady, N.Y.<\/span>, with a median home price of <span class=\"xn-money\">$210,000<\/span>, tops the list with nearly 18 listings per 1,000 households, <span class=\"xn-location\">Iowa City, Iowa<\/span> offers 13.3 listings per 1,000 households, followed by <span class=\"xn-location\">Savannah,
