Mundell, who served as an invaluable member of Danaos\u2019 Board of Directors from 2006, when the company went public, through 2015.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nFrom 1974 until his recent passing, Mr. Mundell was a professor in the economics department at Columbia University in New York, where he held Columbia\u2019s highest academic rank of University Professor. For much of his career in academia, he was unconventional in his thinking and delighted in stepping \u201con a lot of intellectual toes.\u201d Known as the \u201cfather of the Euro,\u201d Mr. Mundell laid the groundwork for its introduction and also helped to start the movement known as supply-side economics. He received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 1999 for his pioneering work in monetary dynamics and optimum currency areas. The Nobel committee noted that Mr. Mundell \u201cchose his problems with uncommon \u2013 almost prophetic \u2013 accuracy in terms of predicting the future development of international monetary arrangements and capital markets.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMr. Mundell is survived by his wife Valerie, his children Nicholas, Bill and Robyn and eight grandchildren.
