Yet\u00a0informational text is\u00a0a\u00a0fundamental part of literacy. Comprehending informational\u00a0text\u00a0paves\u00a0the way for future learning, particularly in social studies and the sciences, and success in life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n        <strong>Key Findings<\/strong><br \/>\n        <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n      <\/p>\n<p>Two nine-week studies included 263 first-grade children from low-income households across the country. The study team randomly assigned each child to receive\u00a0either\u00a0a tablet loaded with\u00a0MOLLY OF DENALI\u00a0resources (treatment condition) or a tablet that blocked access to\u00a0MOLLY OF DENALI\u00a0resources (control condition).\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n          <strong>P<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>roblem<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>&#8211;<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>s<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>olving<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>:<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Access to\u202fMOLLY OF DENALI\u202fdigital resources\u202fimproved first-grade\u202fchildren\u2019s ability to use informational text to solve problems, for example, choosing the right book or website to answer a question or using an index\u00a0to find a topic in the book.\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>\n          <strong>High return for minimal time investment:<\/strong>\u00a0Children benefited from the\u202fMOLLY OF DENALI\u202fresources after using them for only about\u00a0one\u00a0hour\u00a0per\u00a0week, on average, over\u00a0nine\u00a0weeks\u2014similar to\u00a0the time that\u00a0children might\u00a0access\u00a0educational media at home. Many educational\u00a0programs\u00a0require more time or engagement\u00a0before learning benefits are seen.\u202f\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>\n          <strong>More screen<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>time = more learning:<\/strong>\u00a0Children who used\u202fMOLLY OF DENALI\u202fresources for longer\u00a0periods\u00a0showed greater learning benefits.\u00a0Findings\u00a0demonstrate that more exposure to high-quality educational content results in greater learning gains.\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>\n          <strong>The power of replication<\/strong><br \/>\n          <strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0The second study was a\u00a0replication\u00a0of the first study, adding further evidence of the\u00a0impact of the\u00a0MOLLY OF DENALI\u00a0resources.\u00a0Although replication is a critical part of the scientific process, few findings in education research are confirmed\u00a0by conducting the same study a second time.\u00a0  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MOLLY OF DENALI\u00a0has received\u00a0much\u00a0critical acclaim, including\u00a0a Peabody Award, a Television Critics Award\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0Kidscreen\u00a0Award, and has\u00a0a\u00a0television\u00a0reach of\u00a0over\u00a042\u00a0million people(1)\u00a0and over 450K\u00a0users on PBS KIDS digital platforms each month(2).\u00a0Now\u00a0MOLLY OF DENALI\u00a0also\u00a0has the backing of two studies that demonstrate children\u2019s learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The studies were commissioned as part of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and PBS Ready\u00a0To\u00a0Learn Initiative,\u00a0with funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
