Donation supports expansion of Toronto Rehab’s virtual diabetes resource hub<\/p>\n

\n TORONTO<\/span>, April 5, 2021<\/span> \/CNW\/ – Worldwide more than 463 million people are living with diabetes, one of the fastest growing health challenges of our time. To help those living with the disease, Sun Life is donating $600,000<\/span> to Toronto Rehab-UHN. The funding will support the development of education materials for a new virtual diabetes program<\/a>. The program provides information, tools and tips to prevent type 2 diabetes and encourage a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Sun Life’s initial commitment of $1 million<\/span> in 2016 supported the launch of Sun Life Diabetes College<\/a>; an online, interactive resource hub that helps people with diabetes manage their health through exercise, education and living a healthy lifestyle. The pandemic has forced more people online, increasing the need for virtual programs offering health-related information. Sun Life is committed to investing in programs that raise awareness of diabetes and drive healthy behaviour change.<\/p>\n

Since launching in 2016, close to 16,000 Canadians have accessed the tools, tips and information on the resource hub. Topics include how to prevent, manage and treat diabetes, as well as the importance of exercise and a healthy diet.
