\n TORONTO<\/span>, April 1, 2021<\/span> \/CNW\/ –\u00a0Today, Royal Bank of Canada<\/span> (TSX: RY)\u00a0(NYSE: RY) (“RBC”) announced that it has received the required approvals from local governments and from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank for the sale of its Eastern Caribbean<\/span> banking operations. The transaction closes today.<\/p>\n

This sale has RBC selling its Eastern Caribbean<\/span> banking operations to a consortium of regional banks comprised of 1st<\/sup> National Bank of St. Lucia<\/span>, Antigua Commercial Bank, Bank of Dominica<\/span>, Bank of Montserrat<\/span>, and The Bank of Nevis<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The sale includes RBC’s 11 branches in Antigua and Barbuda<\/span>, Dominica<\/span>, Grenada<\/span>, Montserrat<\/span>, St. Kitts and Nevis<\/span>, St. Lucia<\/span>, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines<\/span>.<\/p>\n

“This transaction will allow RBC to align investments and resources into markets where our vision for being the Caribbean’s<\/span> digitally-enabled relationship bank can be executed most-successfully,” said Rob Johnston<\/span>, Head of Caribbean Banking. “The sale of our Eastern Caribbean<\/span> banking operations to indigenous banks is also a critical step forward in strengthening the domestic financial services sectors in each of the countries and territories involved. This will help create a stronger climate for further growth, development, and prosperity.”<\/p>\n

Upon closing this transaction, RBC’s Caribbean<\/span> presence \u2013 supported by 3,000 employees \u2013 will include 41 branches and offices across Aruba<\/span>, The Bahamas<\/span>, Barbados<\/span>, Bonaire<\/span>, the Cayman Islands<\/span>, Cura\u00e7ao, Saba, Sint Maarten<\/span>, Trinidad and Tobago<\/span>, and the Turks and Caicos Islands<\/span>.<\/p>\n
