This of course will not reveal whether birth defects could be caused during the first trimester.<\/li>\n<li>So far, with an estimated 20,000 pregnant patients having received the mRNA products, 28 miscarriages have been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) after the Pfizer and 7 after the Moderna injections.<\/li>\n<li>For perspective, about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/3-dozen-cases-of-spontaneous-miscarriages-stillbirths-occurring-after-covid-19-vaccination_3716385.html?utm_source=morningbrief&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=mb-2021-03-03\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">10 to 20 percent of confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage<\/a>, 80 percent during the first trimester. Since reporting to VAERS is far from complete, it is not clear whether the mRNA products increase the risk.<\/li>\n<li>The Pfizer and Moderna products are experimental biologic agents. Biologics, including vaccines, are much more complex than drugs and have different regulatory requirements. Most biologics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/biologics_biologic_drug_class\/article.htm#are_biologics_safe_to_use_during_pregnancy_or_while_breastfeeding\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">have not been adequately tested in pregnant or breastfeeding<\/a> patients.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike true vaccines, the mRNA products contain genetic material designed to cause the vaccinated person\u2019s own cells to manufacture the antigen intended to produce the antibody response. This is a new concept in humans.<\/li>\n<li>It is too early to see long-term effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AAPS also recommends informing patients that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=y6mHueZmWJWkJwsggTD1o2PWAe1vT8W5LedmIrc8ev6EOlqSN9J0-co86DKDdInPahCnC9Y-YM8gkfGHjhianOYGkO9IsuNPBwF3dWRkz9HP3e_OUbv3SusTZtguhfpQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">early treatment is an option<\/a> if a patient gets COVID-19.
