The previous targets were in line with a 2\u00b0C rise<\/li>\n<li>Emissions will be reduced in both Nokia products in use with customers as well as Nokia\u2019s own operations <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4 March 2021<\/p>\n<p>\n        <strong>Espoo, Finland \u2013 Nokia today announced that it will reduce emissions by 50% across both its own operations and products in use by 2030. The company\u2019s new <\/strong><br \/>\n        <strong>Science Based Targets (SBTs)<\/strong><br \/>\n        <strong> fulfill its <\/strong><br \/>\n        <strong>commitment to recalibrate in line with a 1.5\u00b0C global warming scenario. <\/strong>\n      <\/p>\n<p>Nokia first committed to SBTs in 2017, initially with goals based on limiting global warming to 2\u00b0C. The company achieved 90% of its target savings within its own operations (scope 1 and 2) 11 years ahead of target and was on track to deliver its \u2018scope 3\u2019 targets for products in use with its customers. <\/p>\n<p>Nokia is now adopting more ambitious targets which consider a 1.5\u00b0C warming limit, starting with 2019 as the baseline. These have been expanded to cover a broader base, close to 100% of the company\u2019s current product portfolio. They also now include emissions from both logistics and assembly factories within its supply chain, as well as emissions from Nokia\u2019s own operations. <\/p>\n<p>\n        <strong>Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO, Nokia<\/strong><br \/>\n        <strong>said:<\/strong> \u201cWe have led the way in reducing emissions from our own operations and helping our customers to do the same by continuously innovating to make our products more energy efficient in recent years. SBTi will update Nokia\u2019s targets on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=Uq020MvbJ-QEX9lXBEgG2OAFGC2kLybdudL4cE5IsNAJgXaZq9BIBGvQFeCM3noRH5owHfzlGuHZyD143-004nWFVUmWnngyhURkQNuCks-WbHzc7owFudWIo4A5qG3p\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><u>https:\/\/sciencebasedtargets.org\/<\/u><\/a>\u00a0 website during the course of today (4 March).<\/p>\n<p>Products in use is the largest part of Nokia\u2019s carbon footprint and the company is addressing in multiple ways, from hardware and software energy efficiency to product design, to modernization and better use of resources.
