WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Howard University<\/b>,\u00a0<\/b>in\u00a0partnership\u00a0with Fiserv, Inc.<\/b><\/a> and the\u00a0Inclusive Innovation Incubator\u00a0(In3DC)<\/b>,\u00a0is announcing the launch of Inclusive Innovation Labs<\/a>\u00a0(IIL) focused on Howard University students and alumni. Supported by a grant from Fiserv, the IIL is the first program organized in partnership with the Howard University\u00a0Office of Research, Intellectual Property Unit that will\u00a0train and support\u00a0entrepreneurs of color\u00a0to launch and scale their businesses.\u00a0Howard University\u2019s network of innovative students and faculty will receive In3DC\u2019s entrepreneurship training to address the specific needs of entrepreneurs of color.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Inclusive Innovation Labs, sponsored by Fiserv, will help educate and empower Howard entrepreneurs to make a difference in the world by bringing their ideas closer to realization,\u201d said Howard University President Wayne A. I. The\u00a0inaugural\u00a0program will bring together a cohort of\u00a015\u00a0Howard University students, alumni, faculty and small business\u00a0owners, with a focus on\u00a0financial technology (fintech) businesses\u00a0and\u00a0innovators with\u00a0patentable\u00a0work.\u00a0Participants will receive\u00a048 hours of\u00a0fully virtual\u00a0programming, including\u00a024 hours of\u00a0intense entrepreneurship\u00a0workshops, weekly one-on-one coaching and\u00a0support with\u00a0pitch-deck preparation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been committed to serving the underrepresented and underserved communities,\u201d said In3DC Founder and CEO Aaron Saunders<\/b>. \u201cIn3DC was established to provide this type of programming with educational partners such as Howard University and companies like Fiserv. The Inclusive Innovation Labs entrepreneurship program has trained over 125 participants, and through this partnership, we will continue to build the entrepreneurship ecosystem.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The investment\u00a0from Fiserv,\u00a0a leading global provider of payments and financial services technology solutions, is part of the company\u2019s Back2Business program, a pledge to invest in communities across the country with a focus on helping small minority-owned businesses.\u00a0In addition, Fiserv associates will lead training sessions for the cohort, sharing real-world expertise on payments, financial technology, customer engagement and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

The competition will award\u00a0$25,000, $10,000 and $5,000 to\u00a0first-, second- and third-place winners\u00a0toward the development of their product,\u00a0positioning\u00a0them\u00a0to\u00a0successfully\u00a0pitch\u00a0outside investors for\u00a0additional\u00a0funding.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
