In 2013, Walmart launched its American Jobs initiative, promising a multibillion-dollar investment into products that support American manufacturing. Just two years later in 2015, a TINA.org investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=vZdVS1wnpDOIN5UjALlV3fnz8qjznk6RVytIal2WQ6i_xgo6326ilZauwLBppe1Roy_a4pQXyNcNRuOMKWt3nRLEeXEGl1Sk86Hk-Df4yrOa73lsk1_fKyft2Px4k85R\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a> that the company\u2019s website was riddled with deceptive made in USA claims and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=T_JE8tystm5iVFwwswutuZqU-av8OuCmM3rbSWAzEX3n0LPDXEI7mAZbPhZxlc1KqsSft2dKRCNnh2o1LaHy2uJb8J1IloHL3Hy4AkezMcgLI_yQgWgLpPWtV5LXSGJmakIxMP9wU_JZ16o_G4lNvmTq6ouKrFWnvjPirc5VSZI=\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> its findings to the FTC. The company\u2019s \u201cMade in America\u201d ad campaign has been airing on national television, promoted on social media, and is featured on an \u201cAmerica At Work\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=2kfvISdwguxxTpL97ZhGsrt1XkHYdldur9fuLmVcAXpQEXiNh3PEkmIBCdPlPAuaKqnzjYq7mo97yAj2I7ooWoeSCCUU9ZGdfl4RVo4lVCs=\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">landing page<\/a> on its website, suggesting that \u201cmade\u201d in America means \u201cproduced,\u201d \u201cgrown,\u201d \u201cassembled\u201d or \u201csourced\u201d in the USA. This definition is much broader than the FTC\u2019s, which calls for products marketed as made in the USA or made in America to be \u201call or virtually all\u201d made in the United States, meaning they contain no \u2013 or negligible \u2013 foreign content.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, consumers using the \u201cShop Now, Find American-Made Products on Walmart.com\u201d link on the landing page are led to another page that lists approximately 2,000 products that are \u2013 presumably \u2013 American-made. However, TINA.org\u2019s investigation found a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/Tracker?data=rgh7cKsVGIlnqHmvuLF2604W1yp7cbGOfANnInAfSDqV2zSCTGePDNIHabLap_rZda-FUL-uoM_H8mxAqKbzFDFuQi8V4-BfdTI_wQte24ZQNiO088nRtguAt5QQgjfr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">number<\/a> of them, everything from foot cream to bath towels, do not meet the FTC\u2019s unqualified made in the USA standard.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cWalmart\u2019s history of deceptive Made in USA marketing claims on its website now spans more than five years and is exacerbated by consumers\u2019 current need and desire to shop online during the global pandemic,\u201d according to TINA.org\u2019s executive director Bonnie Patten. \u201cObviously, as the world\u2019s largest retailer, the company\u2019s continuing failure to address these issues cannot be related to a lack of resources or sophistication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interest in made in the USA products has only grown since Walmart first launched its American jobs initiative, particularly during the pandemic, which has raised supply chain and country-of-origin concerns among consumers.
