On December 8, 2020, Quintessential Capital Management (\u201cQCM\u201d) published a report entitled: \u201cIs Penumbra\u2019s Core Scientific Research Authored by a Fake Person?\u201d In the report, QCM alleged that \u201ca substantial portion of scientific literature produced by Penumbra appears to have been authored by a fictional character.\u201d QCM performed extensive internet research and found that several Penumbra research papers promoting its own devices were authored by a \u201cDr. Antik Bose,\u201d who QCM claims is \u201cjust a fake internet persona[.]\u201d<\/p>\n

On this news, Penumbra\u2019s stock price fell $19.95 per share, nearly 9%, to close at $204.07 per share on December 8, 2020<\/p>\n

On December 15, 2020, after the markets closed, Penumbra announced that it was \u201cvoluntarily recalling all configurations\u201d of its JET 7 Xtra Flex Reperfusion Catheter \u201cbecause the catheter may become susceptible to distal tip damage during use.\u201d This news came after a November 10, 2020 QCM report called: \u201cPenumbra and its \u2018Killer Catheter.\u2019\u201d In this report, QCM conducted interviews with \u201c[n]euroradiologists [and] former FDA senior staff\u201d and found that the JET 7 device was \u201clinked to 18 recorded deaths [and] 39 injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the recall, Penumbra\u2019s shares are trading at approximately $173.00 per share, down over 16%, on December 16, 2020.<\/p>\n
