(PEN) Investigation: <\/strong>\n      <\/p>\n<p>The investigation centers on whether Penumbra misled investors about the company\u2019s flagship products for treating ischemic stroke.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 9, 2020, research firm <em>Quintessential Capital Management <\/em>(\u201c<em>QCM\u201d<\/em>) published a scathing report about \u201cPenumbra and its \u2018killer catheter\u2019\u201d, concluding: (1) \u201cPenumbra\u2019s flagship \u2018Jet 7\u2019 device is linked to 18 recorded deaths, 39 injuries: this might be only the \u2018tip of the iceberg;\u2019\u201d (2) \u201c[t]he device is unsafe and unmarketable: we believe an FDA class 1 recall highly likely\u201d; (3) \u201cPenumbra may have been highly misleading in critical parts of its communication with doctors and investors;\u201d and, (4) \u201c[d]espite appearances, financial metrics are rapidly deteriorating, anticipating a possible sharp drop in sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, on Dec. 8, 2020, <em>QCM <\/em>published another report accusing Penumbra of using a fake character to generate supporting scientific literature for its products.
