SoCalGas supports those goals. \u00a0With this new program, natural gas customers will soon have the ability to purchase renewable natural gas (RNG) to fuel their homes and businesses, similar to renewable energy programs available to electric customers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;RNG is made from organic waste from dairies, landfills and with the passage of AB 3163 can now be sourced from dead trees, agricultural waste and vegetation removed for wildfire mitigation. \u00a0It is the only renewable energy source that can be carbon negative.\u00a0 Experts at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3017092-1&amp;h=2132367807&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww-gs.llnl.gov%2Fcontent%2Fassets%2Fdocs%2Fenergy%2FGetting_to_Neutral.pdf&amp;a=Lawrence+Livermore+National+Laboratories+say\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories say<\/a><span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> will need to remove 125 million tons of CO<sub>2 <\/sub>from the atmosphere per year to achieve carbon neutrality.\u00a0 And they found that converting organic waste to clean fuels like RNG holds the greatest potential for negative emissions at the lowest cost.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;SoCalGas is helping to build <span class=\"xn-location\">California&#8217;s<\/span> 21<sup>st<\/sup> century energy system with investments in RNG, hydrogen, fuel cells and carbon capture and storage.
