Pulling from the\u00a0more than 20,000 objects, photographs,\u00a0artworks,\u00a0and stories submitted to the Museum\u2019s open call, the exhibition features selections\u00a0made by\u00a0a community jury,\u00a0reflecting\u00a0the changes and challenges of\u00a0life in New York City\u00a0from March through\u00a0August\u00a02020.\u00a0\u00a0Opening December 18,\u00a0New York Responds\u00a0paints\u00a0a poignant and powerful portrait of\u00a0the\u00a0city, and\u00a0it\u00a0will\u00a0be accessible both at the museum and online\u00a0in\u00a0a digital \/>\n        <\/em><br \/>\n        <em><br \/>\n          <strong>: The First Six Months<\/strong><br \/>\n        <\/em>\u00a0includes photographs,\u00a0objects, videos, and works of art\u00a0that document the impacts of Covid-19 and activism in 2020.\u00a0\u00a0Objects\u00a0and images include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>  Creative handmade\u00a0masks\u00a0and social distance markers;\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>  Photographs of mutual aid efforts, including food donation, community fridges, and volunteers;\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>  A\u00a0pan used in the 7 o\u2019clock clapping for health care workers;\u00a0  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>  Photographs of activism\u00a0for Black Lives Matter, including healthcare workers taking a knee;\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>  An innovative ventilator devised by medical personnel at\u00a0The Mount Sinai Health System;\u00a0  <\/li>\n<li>  Photographs of essential workers, including food delivery\u00a0and\u00a0public transportation.\u00a0  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interactive elements also allow visitors to contribute their own experiences\u00a0online, through an oral history recording project in partnership with\u00a0StoryCorps\u00a0and\u00a0the ongoing open call.\u00a0Rounding out the exhibition\u00a0are\u00a0original works testifying to the creative responses of artists to\u00a0the events of the year, including three major works on plywood that were created on storefronts in SoHo during the summer of 2020.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After more than 20,000\u00a0nominations\u00a0were submitted to the Museum\u2019s open call, via hashtags #CovidStoriesNYC\u00a0and #ActivistNY\u00a0and by nonprofit collecting partners across the city,\u00a0a community jury comprised of members from\u00a0all\u00a0walks of life\u00a0made\u00a0selections for the exhibition.\u00a0To represent\u00a0the\u00a0vast\u00a0quantity\u00a0of contributions, the exhibition will also include a word cloud visualizing words from the thousands of nominated image captions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not typical for us to document history while still living through it, but\u00a0our\u00a0open call provided an opportunity for the Museum to include a varied and diverse set of perspectives from across the five boroughs,\u201d says <strong>Sarah Henry<\/strong>, Robert A. and
