Highlights from the report include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>U.S. equity fund outflows more than doubled from September to <span class=\"xn-money\">$46 billion<\/span>, the second-highest monthly outflows on record. About <span class=\"xn-money\">$35 billion<\/span> of these outflows came from actively managed funds while passively managed funds saw <span class=\"xn-money\">$11 billion<\/span> exit. International equity funds posted outflows for the ninth month in a row, with <span class=\"xn-money\">$1.8 billion<\/span> leaving in October and total outflows from the group amounting to <span class=\"xn-money\">$6 billion<\/span> since August. <\/li>\n<li>Taxable-bond funds led all category groups in October with <span class=\"xn-money\">$62 billion<\/span> in inflows, with total inflows of <span class=\"xn-money\">$316 billion<\/span> for the year to date. While many investors moved towards moderate risk categories such as intermediate-core bond, others put money into short-term and ultrashort bond funds, suggesting a conservative stance in the face of economic and political uncertainty as well as rock-bottom interest rates. Collectively, short-term and ultrashort bond funds took in nearly <span class=\"xn-money\">$19 billion<\/span> during the month. <\/li>\n<li>Municipal-bond funds also gathered <span class=\"xn-money\">$6 billion<\/span> in October, and investors targeted strategies that are thought to offer lower issuer and interest-rate risk. Of these inflows, <span class=\"xn-money\">$3.9 billion<\/span> went to muni national short funds, which typically spread assets across various municipal issuers and sport modest durations. <\/li>\n<li>Vanguard continues to lead among fund families, collecting <span class=\"xn-money\">$12.8 billion<\/span> in inflows in October, while iShares closely followed with inflows of <span class=\"xn-money\">$9.5 billion<\/span>. IShares&#8217; taxable-bond funds drove much of the firm&#8217;s increase, collecting <span class=\"xn-money\">$7 billion<\/span> for the month.
