Portland, Maine, Nov. 17, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As he trained earlier this year for a career in professional football following three years as linebacker at the University of Texas-El Paso, Kalaii Griffin II had a realization.<\/p>\n

\u201cI needed to drop calories quickly, but the trash bags sauna suits I was wearing would rip, so I decided to make my own, and that was the birth of ShredSkinz<\/a>,\u201d said Griffin, the company\u2019s founder and CEO\u2014and a former Portland resident.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you wear one of these while you\u2019re doing housework or just driving from home to the gym, you\u2019ll be sweating,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cIt\u2019s a sweat machine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin, a native of Springfield, Mass., graduated from UTEP in the spring with a degree in communications and said his goal was to play professional football. But as a father to a young son, his responsibility right now is to his family, and his sole focus is on growing the ShredSkinz brand.<\/p>\n

With connections in college sports and the NFL, Griffin said he hopes to get ShredSkinz into colleges and universities, professional sports leagues and even in hotels and resorts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to sponsor a professional fighter and have them use our product to help them sweat and maintain their fighting weight,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cWe\u2019re active on social media, especially Instagram and Tik Tok, and we want people to send us their videos of them sweating with ShredSkinz.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin spent time living in Portland on Munjoy Hill and has fond memories of his time selling cars at Berlin City Nissan\u2014an experience that will come in handy as he grows ShredSkinz.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoyed living in Maine, and my time there prepared me for marketing to areas around the country that weren\u2019t always 70 degrees every day,\u201d Griffin said.<\/p>\n

Launching a business in the middle of a pandemic has presented plenty of challenges\u2014ones Griffin\u2019s using his past experience to navigate.<\/p>\n

Mainers are active, especially people in Portland, Griffin said, so a ShredSkinz suit is perfect for anyone running or walking on the Eastern Promenade or Back Cove.<\/p>\n
