CARFAX Canada Used Vehicle Market Insights – August 2026 Snapshot<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nThe Fall version of the CARFAX Canada Used Vehicle Market Insights<\/i> Report tracks the latest market trends to help dealers and the auto industry make informed decisions when buying and selling used vehicles. In August, used transactions declined to 258,202, down 6.9% MoM (month-over-month) and 6.6% YoY (year-over-year).<\/p>\n

\nUsed vehicle inventory increased 18.9% MoM, reaching its highest level in 2026 so far. Although supply remains below 2025 and pre-pandemic levels, that lift in vehicle availability is giving consumers more choices. The combination of more inventory and falling sales suggests supply is starting to outpace demand, increasing the likelihood of a price correction this fall.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cSourcing the right inventory remains one of the biggest challenges facing dealers today. In a market where consumer demand continues to evolve, every inventory decision carries greater weight,\u201d said Shawn Vording, President of CARFAX Canada. \u201cWhile no one can predict exactly what the market will do next, dealers can make smarter, more confident decisions by leveraging trusted data and market insights. Success increasingly depends on aligning inventory strategies with that real-time data. It helps dealers reduce risk, improve inventory performance and better serve their customers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nIn the Fall CARFAX Canada Used Vehicle Market Insights<\/i> Report, the national average used vehicle listing price reached $30,776 in August, down 0.3% MoM and 2.7% YoY. Despite a significant increase in available inventory, pricing remained largely unchanged. The growing supply has not yet translated into meaningful downward pressure on vehicle values.<\/p>\n

\nUsed EV prices decreased 1.8% MoM and 5.4% YoY as inventory reached a new 2026 high. Inventory remained relatively consistent, with Tesla accounting for nearly two-thirds (64%) of EV listings. Affordable options, such as the Nissan Leaf, remain in limited supply, creating a significant barrier for consumers who want to enter the used EV market.<\/p>\n
