Yet only 24% use a language-learning app to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe report also found that more than half of professionals (55%) simplify what they want to say when using a second language at work. One in four (25%) stay silent despite having something valuable to contribute, while another 25% allow a colleague to speak on their behalf.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bwlistdisc\">\n<li>\nIn open-ended responses, professionals described being unable to contribute fully in meetings, struggling to explain technical issues to international colleagues, and lacking confidence when speaking with customers, suppliers and senior leaders.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nMeetings were the most frequently mentioned source of second-language anxiety, particularly when learners had to speak with senior leaders, clients or international colleagues.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nNearly half of respondents (49%) identified unexpected or unplanned conversations as what creates the most second-language anxiety during a typical working week, while regular international team calls (26%) were the most common recurring scheduled trigger.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nThese findings highlight a growing challenge for learning and development (L&amp;D) leaders: while organisations continue to invest heavily in language learning, many employees still struggle to perform in high-pressure situations.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;The research confirms what we&#8217;ve been hearing from employers,&#8221; said Karine Allouche, General Manager at Busuu. &#8220;They\u2019ve invested heavily in language learning and skills development, but what they really need is people who can perform in another language when the stakes are high.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cWe believe this will become increasingly important as AI changes the workplace.
