(Nasdaq: ATEC), a spine-focused provider of innovative solutions dedicated to revolutionizing the approach to spine surgery, today announced that Thomas “Tommy” Carls has joined the company as Executive Vice President, Data Intelligence and Strategy. Carls will report directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Pat Miles, and will serve as a member of ATEC’s Senior Leadership Team.<\/p>\n

\nIn this newly created role, Carls will lead ATEC’s development and marketing efforts across EOSedge, EOS Insight, data acquisition and analytics, and the broader InformatiX strategy. His mandate is to focus priorities, connect global teams and capabilities, and accelerate an integrated strategy that turns information about each patient and procedure into actionable clinical insight.<\/p>\n

\nCarls brings more than 3 decades of leadership and innovation experience in spine and medical technology. Throughout his career, Carls has helped develop and launch market-leading technologies across spinal implants, enabling technologies, image-guided surgery and robotics. He previously served as Vice President of Product and Clinical at Proprio Vision, where he helped advance an artificial intelligence-enabled surgical navigation platform. Before Proprio, Carls spent more than two decades with Sofamor Danek and Medtronic in numerous executive roles, spanning engineering, product development, marketing and global research and development. He holds more than 80 patents. Carls earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Tulane University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis.<\/p>\n
